Biographie
Christian Borrelli studierte Medizin und gleichzeitig Gesang an der Universität von Santiago de Compostela. Er gab dann seine Karriere als Arzt auf, um sich ganz der Musik zu widmen. Seine weitere musikalische Ausbildung erhielt er an der renommierten Universität der Künste Berlin. Meisterkurse besuchte er bei Countertenören wie Xavier Sabata oder Philippe Jaroussky und bei Regisseuren wie Alberto Zedda, Eduardo López Banzo oder Miquel Ortega. Der junge Counter war im Opernstudio der Jungen Philharmonie. Christian Borrelli wurde mit dem 1. Preis des Compostela Lírica-Wettbewerbs (2020) und dem 2. Preis des Medinacelli International Singing Competition (2019) ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 2021 war er Teil der ersten Generation von CRESCENDO, einem vom Teatro Real Madrid geleiteten Projekt, das vielversprechende junge Sänger in ihrer aufstrebenden musikalischen Karriere unterstützt und das SALVAT BECA BACH-Stipendium beinhaltet.
Er übernahm Hauptrollen in barocken Opern- und Oratorien wie die Titelrollen von Händels Alessandro oder Solomon, Orfeo ed Oridice, Holofernes oder Cain in Scarlattis Cain overo Il Primo Omicidio und wirkte in der zeitgenössischen Oper María Soliña mit. In Spanien sang er im November 23 den Emanuel in der ebenfalls zeitgenössischen Oper La Paz Perpetua von Rio-Pareja. Im Juni 24 gastierte er als Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel am Teatro Real in Madrid. Jüngste Engagements beinhalten den Kain in Kain oder der erste Mord von Scarlatti in Bilbao, Carmina Burana mit der Filarmonia de Madrid, mit dem Orquesta Sinfonica de Las Palmas und mit dem Orquesta Gaos. Am Theater Koblenz debütierte er als Disinganno in Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno. 25/26 wird der junge Countertenor am Landestheater Niederbayern sein Debüt in der Titelpartie von Giulio Cesare in Egitto geben.
Sein künstlerisches Schaffen führt ihn zu Konzerten, Festivals und Liederabenden in ganz Spanien, u.a. im Teatro Real in Madrid, im Nationalauditorium in Madrid, im Palau de la Música oder im Alfredo-Kraus-Auditorium in Las Palmas auf Gran Canaria. International trat Christian Borrelli beim Monteverdi Festival in Cremona, beim Bachfest in Leipzig und beim BRQ Vantaa Festival in Helsinki auf. Er musizierte mit dem Al Ayre Español, der Real Filharmonía de Galicia, der Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie, dem Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra, dem Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa und dem Bachcelona Consort. Christian Borrelli ist sehr aktiv in der zeitgenössischen Kunstszene und hat zusammen mit anderen Künstlern wie dem spanischen Maler und Designer Okuda San Miguel, der kalifornischen Filmemacherin Isabelle Carbonell oder der österreichischen bildenden Künstlerin Ines Doujak verschiedene musikalische und performative Projekte geschaffen.
ABOUT
Christian Borrelli studied Medicine while simultaneously pursuing singing at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He then gave up his career as a doctor to fully dedicate himself to music. He continued his musical education at the prestigious Universität der Künste Berlin. He attended masterclasses with countertenors such as Xavier Sabata and Philippe Jaroussky, as well as with directors like Alberto Zedda, Eduardo López Banzo, and Miquel Ortega. The young countertenor was part of the opera studio of the Junge Philharmonie. Christian Borrelli was awarded the 1st Prize at the Compostela Lírica Competition (2020) and the 2nd Prize at the Medinacelli International Singing Competition (2019). In 2021, he was part of the first generation of CRESCENDO, a project led by Teatro Real Madrid that supports promising young singers in their emerging musical careers, which includes the SALVAT BECA BACH scholarship.
He has sung roles in baroque operas and oratorios, such as the title roles in Handel’s Alessandro and Solomon, Orfeo ed Euridice, Holofernes, and Cain in Scarlatti’s Cain overo Il Primo Omicidio, and participated in the contemporary opera María Soliña. In November 2023, he sang the role of Emanuel in the contemporary opera La Paz Perpetua by Rio-Pareja in Spain. In June 2024, appeared as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Recent engagements include the role of Cain in Cain oder der erste Mord by Scarlatti in Bilbao, Carmina Burana with the Filarmonia de Madrid, with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Las Palmas, and with the Orquesta Gaos. He made his debut at the Theater Koblenz as Disinganno in Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno. In the 2025/26 season, the young countertenor will make his debut in the title role of Giulio Cesare in Egitto at the Landestheater Niederbayern.
Elsewhere, he appeared in concerts, festivals, and lieder evenings throughout Spain, including performances at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Palau de la Música, and the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Internationally, Christian Borrelli has performed at the Monteverdi Festival in Cremona, the Bachfest in Leipzig, and the BRQ Vantaa Festival in Helsinki. He has collaborated with Al Ayre Español, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra, the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, and the Bachcelona Consort. Christian Borrelli is highly active in the contemporary art scene and has created various musical and performance projects alongside other artists, including the Spanish painter and designer Okuda San Miguel, Californian filmmaker Isabelle Carbonell, and Austrian visual artist Ines Doujak.
