Biografie
Der walisische Tenor Rhydian Jenkins ist mit einem Teilspielzeitvertrag an der Oper Köln engagiert, wo er sich in den vergangenen Spielzeiten mit verschiedenen Partien etabliert hat. In der Spielzeit 2026/27 kehrt er als Jamie und Lord Boxington in My Fair Lady sowie als Hörling in Die Nachtigall an die Oper Köln zurück und übernimmt die Cover-Partie des Macduff in Macbeth.Zudem gibt er Hausdebüts an der Opéra de Lausanne als Prolog in The Turn of the Screw und beim Da Ponte Opera Festival in Italien als Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro.
Zu seinen jüngsten Erfolgen zählen sein Hausdebüt als Sellem in The Rake’s Progress am Stadttheater Gießen sowie der Malcolm bei der Longborough Festival Opera. Zuvor war der junge Tenor im Ensemble des Opernstudios der Oper Köln, wo er u.a. als Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Maurizio di Mauro in Der Wunschpunsch, Parpignol in La Bohème, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Don Curzio und Don Basilio (cover) auf der Bühne stand.
Als Ensemblemitglied des National Opera Studio gastierte Rhydian Jenkins an der English National Opera, der Opera North, der Scottish Opera und der Welsh National Opera, wo er in Opernszenen Rollen wie Graf Almaviva in ll barbiere di Siviglia, Fenton in Falstaff, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Beppe in Rita, Telemaco in Il ritorno d’Ulisse, Wenzel in Die verkaufte Braut, Jaquino in Fidelio, Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro und Remendado in Carmen interpretierte.
Zu seinen gesungenen Partien zählen Sergj in Moskau, Tscherjomuschki für die WNO, Snout, Fairy 3 in The Fairy Queen für die Longborough Festival Opera, Ruggero (Cover) in La Rondine, Spoletta in Tosca, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Alfred in Die Fledermaus und Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd. Für die Garsington Opera coverte er den Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream und Graf Ivrea in Un giorno di regno.2025 sang er den Peter Quint/Prologue in The Turn of the Screw beim Cumbria Opera Festival.
Rhydian Jenkins schloss sein Studium am Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama mit Auszeichnung ab. 2019 erhielt er das Bryn Terfel Scholarship und wurde 2021 zum MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year gewählt. 2023 war er Finalist des Bampton Classical Opera Young Singer’s Competition.

Welsh tenor Rhydian Jenkins holds a part-time contract with Oper Köln, where he has established himself over recent seasons in a range of roles. In the 2026/27 season, he returns to Oper Köln as Jamie and Lord Boxington in My Fair Lady and Hörfling in Die Nachtigall, and covers Macduff in Macbeth. He also makes house debuts at Opéra de Lausanne as the Prologue in The Turn of the Screw and at the Da Ponte Opera Festival in Italy as Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro.
Recent highlights include his house debut as Sellem in The Rake’s Progress at Stadttheater Gießen and Malcolm at Longborough Festival Opera.
